Dado que Rage Against The Machine se ha convertido en una de mis bandas favoritas últimamente, no tenía razones para no comentar acerca del tema. ¿Por qué me gustaron tanto? Las letras, el sonido, la postura política…

A partir de esto se me ocurrió la idea de analizar las letras de las canciones… entenderlas. Decidí compartir con ustedes un tema que me encanta: Know Your Enemy.

La letra dice así:

No voy a traducirla, pero para el que no sepa inglés (y para mí mismo) voy a hacer un intento por sacar una conclusión de lo que significa, de lo que intenta decir.

Know your enemy es la clara postura de Zack de la Rocha y de la banda ante el estereotipo americano, es la protesta contra el sistema “autoritario-democrático” que tienen. Habla de darse cuenta de que son marionetas, de lo cansado que está del conformismo, otra vez del privilegio de los policías frente a los ciudadanos, y enfatiza quienes son “sus enemigos”: Compromiso, conformismo, asimilación, sumición, ignorancia, hipocresía, brutalidad y la élite, de los cuales dice, “todos son sueños estadounidenses”.

Bien de acuerdo estoy con él y con toda la banda, y agradecido por haberlos conocido. Aunque la situación en nuestro país no es la misma (realmente… me siento afortunado, los yankees viven en una burbuja, en una caja de zapatos) hay que abrir la mente. Yo por ahora puedo agregar un enemigo más, propio: la masificación.
